In October 2018 I was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s. Is an auto immune disease that affects your thyroid. I was completely blindsided. I thought I did everything right. I thought I ate well, I took my vitamins, oiled up, limited toxins, I did self development and self-care.
I cried, I got mad but then pulled myself together and became determined to get to the root cause. I was not OK with “here’s some medication to take for the rest of your life. “ But I put on a fake smile and moved forward. Or so I thought.
Every morning I was waking up with negative dark thoughts about myself. I was experiencing anxiety attacks, and PTSD and I didn’t have the energy to pretend anymore.
I went to a functional doctor and was doing test after test after test, blood draws every six weeks and completely changed my diet. I was oiling up all day every day. But in the end it wasn’t enough. I hit my breaking point and fell into a deep depression. The things that once had brought me joy, no longer did. My family and I went on a much-needed beach vacation and I was standing in the sand, looking at the ocean thinking I am in the most beautiful place in the world with the people I love the most in the world and I still feel empty.
I met with an energy healer and she told me your soul is tired and wants to leave but your physical body wants to stay. You’re tired of pretending to be someone you’re not to please others. That hit me in the gut. I decided to go on a spiritual journey to do some soul-searching.
Emotionally, Hashimoto’s is a conflict between your body and spirit, lack of self-love, fear of speaking up, feeling unheard and unable to express yourself. Depression is deep seeded grief. These emotions together, are like a perfect storm for a downward spiral. I had to take a step back and get to know myself again. Be OK with just my own company. Let go of things that longer served me and people who didn’t respect me. I focused on my family, my children, my marriage and most importantly my health.
I started reading about leaky gut and SIBO, and eating the right foods for my body but then my soul coach taught me that while food is SUPER important to healing our bodies sometimes it is the emotional pain we have buried so deep down that needs the healing. This healing takes time and lots of digging which could be emotionally scary and very lonely. I’ve done some major digging these past few months. And, I had stuff I didn’t even know about. I am the type of person who will put on a smile for fear of making others uncomfortable. So I smiled through cancer, smiled through losing my mom, smiled through depression and seven years later it bubbled up into my throat chakra and solar plexus chakra making my body super unbalanced emotionally.
Fast forward 2 years later. Still working on keeping my autoimmune in check. Its a constant in my life but that's okay. I am still eating clean, using my oils and supplements and doing my spiritual/emotional work. Everyday. I feel AMAZING and can say the work is worth it.
Healing isn't a light switch, its a fire that needs stoked daily.
