Summer Oil Must Haves

My top favorite Summer must have oils!

Summer is quickly approaching and we need to be ready for anything. It is so nice to have these oils on hand when we are cruising down the road to the lake, camping in the mountains or spending a hot day at the water park. I know if a need arises I am have the essentials I need to make sure my family stays healthy and happy all summer long. There is nothing that drags on a summer day like  whiney kids...:)

I want to share my top summer oils with you, so you can have a smooth, yummy smelling, lazy summer! Enjoy!

First up! Peppermint! This is a must have oil for hot summer days! We love applying this oil on the back of our neck for a quick, refreshing cool down. Our  peppermint comes from Washington and is so crispy and sweet. The aroma will wake up all your senses and keep you alert all day long. Add a few drops to a squirt bottle of water to spray all over your body. Also great for head tension when you combine this oil with a drop of Roman Chamomile. Just make sure you avoid getting peppermint in your eye!

Favorite use: One drop of peppermint and one drop of Wild Orange, Rub  your hands together and inhale.

We call this the Colorado HIT!

Second must have oil: Lavender. Our Lavender comes from the rolling hills of Bulgaria. This sweet essential oil is the Swiss army knife of oils. So many uses! I Love adding a couple drops to my hair for growth and shine. We also keep this one on and for scrapes and burns, seasonal threats, to calm the skin after too much sun, and to help us get a restful night sleep. This oil can be used in so many different ways. Topically, internally, and aromatically. Oh...and to take the itch out of bug bites or skin irritations.

Favorite use: 2 drops of Lavender and 2 drops of Cedarwood in the diffuser for a restful night sleep.

Next up! Lemon. Lemon is so refreshing and uplifting. Our Lemon comes from the beautiful orchards of Italy. Lemon is purifying and cleansing and can be used in your water to detox and quench your thirst. I add 2 drops to my glass water bottle and drink throughout the day. Please use only glass when drinking lemon. Since it is a purifier it will break down plastics. I also love this one to wash my fruits and veggies. Add a drop of lemon to a bowl of water and soak your fruits or veggies for about 5 minutes. This will give your food a whole new flavor! Also, a great one to use to clean your home, without toxic chemicals. Add 15 drops to a spray bottle with 2 tablespoons of vinegar, and top of with warm water. Use to spray down your counter tops, appliances and cutting boards.  * Lemon is a citrus oil and photosensitive, so please don't apply to any area of the body that will see the sun for at least 12 hours.

Favorite use: I love adding 2 drops of Lemon to my chicken for a citrus flavor.

If you are a swimmer, then you will need Melaleuca. Melaleuca (tee tree) comes from Australia and a great cleansing oils. If you are using a public shower, apply Melaleuca to your feet to avoid any unwanted skin irritations. Get some water in your ears? Apply a drop of Melaleuca to a cotton ball and hold over your ear for relief. (never apply oils directly in the ear canal.) Melaleuca is also a great oil for acne, scrapes and cuts. It will help your skin repair itself and keep it clean.

Favorite use: Have a pesky zit? Apply one drop of melaleuca and 1 drop of lavender on location a few times a day.

Road Trip Anyone?  If you will be traveling this summer, riding too many roller coasters, or eating too much BBQ, you'll need some Digestzen! Digestzen is a blend of oils to support the  digestive system. Apply a drop or two to your tummy and rub in a circular motion. You can also apply to your throat or a drop under your tongue. This oil is also great to break up mucus by applying to your sinuses.

Favorite use: Before we jump in the car to head over the mountains, we apply Digestzen to our daughters feet to help relieve feelings of nausea. When in doubt on where to apply an oil, always go for the feet..Its all about reflexology!

Next must have Terrashield! Terrashield is a blend of oils for a natural bug repellent. This blend smells amazing and has no added chemicals or DEET, so it is safe for the whole family. With the warm summer days and nights, we apply this oil by spraying on our pants, neck and arms.

Favorite use: For added protection, add Lemongrass to help deter those extra pesky bugs!

Even though it is  warm out, we still need to keep our immune systems up. On Guard is a blend of oils to do just that..support the immune system. This oil can also be used as a on the go hand sanitizer. I like to add 15 drops to a small pray bottle, with 1 tsp of aloe vera gel, and topped of with water. I toss it in my purse and I know it is safe for my kids, with no added ingredients.

Favorite use: Every morning we diffuse On Guard or apply to the bottom of our feet to keep us healthy all season long! * Consistency is key

The king of oils...Frankincense! This is an oil EVERYONE should use, everyday. It has amazing properties to help you body repair itself. Also, a great one to add to your face cream to help sooth your skin after being in the sun. When in doubt use Frank! This oil can provide cellular repair and whole body support.

Favorite use: I put one drop under my tongue every morning to help support my brain health and function.

Who doesn't need that?!

Last, but not least! Fractionated Coconut oil.. This convenient carrier oil makes applying oils easy and smooth. The solidifying compounds have been removed from the coconut oil, so it is always in liquid form. Use every time you apply oils to prevent evaporation and prevent any skin irritations. Add 4 drops to every 2 drops of oil, especially for babies, young kids and the elderly with sensitive skin.

Favorite use: It makes a great all over body lotion, to rehydrate your skin leaving it smooth and happy.

I hope these tips have help you and you have an amazing summer! Happy Oiling!
